Seven wonderful days and tours in Sardinia in September 2025

Sardinia in sight – a journey that began back in January

The anticipation of our Sardinia trip was long in the making – and rightly so! Jürgen, our experienced Sardinia expert and organizer, presented the tour at the BMW GS Club's winter meeting in January 2025. The ferry cabins were booked by February – and from then on, the wait for sun, curves, and sea began.

Arrival & Kick-off

The journey to Livorno took place individually in small groups – each in their own way, but all with the same goal: Sardinia!
The meeting point for all 13 motorcycles (two female riders, eleven male riders, and two pillion riders) was at 18:00 PM on Sunday, September 21st, at a pizzeria near the harbor. After a first dinner together—pizza, pasta, and anticipation included—we rolled in convoy onto the ferry to Olbia.

Day 1 – Culture, curves & cuisine

After arriving on the island, our route took us straight to a cultural highlight: Orgosolo, the famous town with its countless impressive murals. Our GSs were parked at the murals like works of art of a different kind.

Our hotel, "Ispinigoli," in Dorgali, booked for three nights, turned out to be a real gem—a quiet location, with secure storage for all our motorcycles, excellent food, and exquisite drinks. It was a wonderful place to arrive!

Day 2 – Two groups, one goal: Mountains, here we come!

The day began sunny and promising. After the first refueling stop, we set off south in two groups: Dorgali – Nuoro – Orani – Fonni – Seulo – Gairo – Tortolì – Baunei – back to Dorgali.
The roads offered everything that makes Sardinia so special – endless curves, magnificent views, and… well, a bit of traffic of a different kind…

Shortly after, the weather tried to annoy us again – a few drops to test our rain gear – but after that, the sun showed its best side for the rest of the week.

Tags 3 – Off to the south: curves and coast

Today it was said: Off to the south! A long stage awaited us – Dorgali – Muravera – Burcei Serpeddi – Solanas – Villasimius – Barisardo – back to Dorgali.
The roads wound their way through the mountains in endless curves, while the landscape changed from barren to Caribbean. The island's beauty was revealed today in all its facets—from rocks to fragrant maquis to the shimmering sea.

After a leisurely lunch break in Villasimius, we went to the sea for a swim in extremely pleasant water temperatures!

Day 4: Elephants in Sardinia

Today it was time to pack the suitcases on the bike, take one last look at Dorgali – and continue northeast! Our destination was the second hotel "La Fattoria" near Castelsardo, just a stone's throw away from the famous Elephant Rock.

But before we plunged into the fun of the curves, there was still some culture on the agenda: a stop at the lovingly managed open-air museum S'Abba Frisca, where Sardinian history, craftsmanship and an exciting tour by the junior chef awaited us.

The subsequent route – Dorgali – S'Abba Frisca – Cala Gonone – Bitti – Ozieri – Chiaramonti – Sedini – Elephant Rock – Castelsardo – was a challenge: tight, cobbled curves, magnificent views, and, at the end, a little off-road adventure.
I was able to confidently claim the prize for the “dirtiest motorcycle of the day” – a matter of honor!

Day 5 – Everything is possible, nothing is necessary

Today was the day for the election: five people decided against the helmet and for the hat – a visit to the market in Castelsardo followed by a day at the beach with a sea view and an espresso.
Some others wanted to at least get a few turns in before putting their feet in the sand. And the rest? The rest wanted everything – so the destination was Alghero!

The route: Castelsardo – Porto Torres – Stintino – Capo Falcone – Alghero – Bosa – Macomer – back to Castelsardo. A day full of sun, wind, sea, and that typical blend of freedom and holiday relaxation.

Day 6 – Culture, curves and a bit of off-road

The day began with culture – the castle of Castelsardo offered magnificent views, historic walls, and the opportunity to swap the helmet for sunglasses.

Then the group split again: some preferred the on-road option, while others ventured up Monte Limbara with a slightly off-road spirit of adventure. Whether on dirt or asphalt, everyone was rewarded with a magnificent panorama.
Afterwards we went to the beach together: relaxation mode on!

Route: Castelsardo – Perfugas – Tula – Monte Limbara – Tempio – Aggius – Isola Rossa – Spiaggia La Marinedda – back to Castelsardo.

Day 7 – Arrivederci, bella Sardegna!

And then it was there, the last day. A little sadness, a little sunshine on my face, and a whole lot of gratitude for an unforgettable week.
After a warm farewell from our wonderful hosts, it was time to put on our helmets and start the engine – the final leg with beach breaks towards the ferry.

Route: Castelsardo – Santa Teresa di Gallura – Capo Testa – Costa Smeralda – Altura – Golfo Aranci – Olbia.
Once again turquoise sea, once again Sardinian asphalt – then the ferry beckoned and with it the way home.

Sardinia, you were fantastic – Arrivederci, ma non addio!

Conclusion – Sun, incline and Sardinian magic

What remains are countless memories: of endless curves, turquoise sea, warm hosts, delicious food – and of that special feeling when the day ends with tired arms, a broad grin, and a cold drink.

Sardinia offered us everything a motorcyclist could wish for.

A huge one Thank-you goes to Jürgen, our tireless tour planner and Sardinia specialist. We'll be taking home plenty of sunshine in our hearts. Arrivederci, bella Sardegna – we’ll be back!
