Our traditional season finale was supposed to take place on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Curves, panoramic views, and Kaiserschmarrn included. But this year, autumn was a little too generous with winter: snowfall, mandatory snow chains, and a road closed to motorcycles!
So a new plan had to be found at short notice. Instead of an Alpine adventure, the plan was: Off to Czechia! And that proved to be the perfect decision. The destination was Krumau (Český Krumlov) – one of the most beautiful cities on the Vltava River, full of history, cobblestone streets and Bohemian charm.
On Saturday morning, October 25th, eight GS riders and one passenger met at Café Dinzler in Irschenberg. Four other club members had decided to travel to the meeting by car – after all, it's the camaraderie that counts, not the mode of transport.
Despite wintry temperatures of 6-8 degrees and occasional drizzle, the mood was excellent – true GS riders aren't deterred by such things! Our group rolled northwards along small side roads, through brightly colored forests, and with plenty of coffee breaks.
Special applause is due to Silvia, who bravely steered her GS 444 kilometers from Lucerne to Bavaria – a strong performance and a real asset to the group!
Upon arriving in Český Krumlov, the hotel awaited us. Oldinn Right in the heart of the old town: spacious rooms, secure storage for the GS fleet and a breakfast that left nothing to be desired.
That evening, the time had finally come: our extraordinary club meeting was about to begin. Flo had invited the Pivovarská Restaurace We found the perfect "pit lane" right next to the castle hill.
There was plenty of laughter, expert discussion, and of course, a proper celebration over hearty food, freshly tapped beer, and many stories from the past season.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening that we will remember for a long time – Bohemian hospitality meets Bavarian humor.
Sunday started off cloudy and wet, but after a few kilometers in the drizzle the sun came out – almost like a little greeting to mark the end of the season.
Two motorcycles had starting problems in the morning (presumably offended by the cold), but thanks to a starter booster, this was quickly resolved. Only Reinhard's GS was serious and broke down near Haslach with clutch failure – apparently, that's just part of a real GS tour.
Nevertheless, the return journey via Austria was relaxed, and with every kilometer the good feeling grew of having completed a wonderful season together.
And finally ...
Bohemia is a great destination – beautiful landscapes, winding roads with grippy asphalt, friendly people and an unforgettable evening in Krumau.
A heartfelt thank you to all fellow travelers for this friendly and eventful weekend.
