Under professional management

On March 29, 2025, nine BMW GS enthusiasts met at Weyhalla in Weyarn for a full-day off-road medical training course run by Georg Fuhrmann's company, ENDULANCE. Georg Fuhrmann is a motorcycle rider himself (off-road) and has gained extensive experience in emergency response operations as a paramedic with DRF Air Rescue. The training demonstrated that Georg also brings a great deal of passion and a knack for empowering motorcyclists to professionally initiate first, potentially life-saving measures in accidents and emergency situations.

Theory and lots of realistic practice

In addition to the theoretical training, we practiced numerous practical exercises that day. Suddenly, Peter the Indian, a retired master glazier, ran into the training room, ironically "with a large piece of glass stuck deep in his forearm" and "wailing in pain."

Like a film prop, Georg knows how to model wounds such as open fractures, burns, bleeding limb stump, shock, or anemia in a realistic way and have participants act them out. As the severe "injuries" show, Peter was the simplest case.

He and everyone else were able to be “helped” in simulated emergency exercises with original bandages, warming blankets and, above all, with the correct first aid.

Exercises and feedback

After each exercise, we received feedback on how the first responders performed and what we could do better in an emergency. The training on the torniquet, which is used for life-threatening bleeding that cannot be controlled with a pressure bandage, was interesting.

Exercises specifically for motorcyclists

A series of practical exercises were simulated outdoors in drizzle and 5°C with "crashed" vehicles in a moderated stress situation: For example, an "injured" person lying under a crashed motorcycle had to be rescued and safely cared for, and "traumatized" car drivers had to be looked after so that they did not hinder the rescue and initial treatment of the "injured" person.

We've repeatedly been reminded that in the event of an accident, it's important to remain calm, secure the scene, and, if necessary, immediately alert an ambulance and provide first aid to the injured person. A precise location description is of utmost importance for emergency calls. In the field or abroad, for example, you can use the compass function on your smartphone or navigation device.

Thank you for the great day and best regards, Klaus
