Preparation and Start – The First Big Test

The journey begins – how could it be otherwise – with a little chaos: Packing for the Motorcycle is a science in itself. Helmet, clothing for six climate zones, tools and maybe even space for a toothbrush? Everything somehow finds its place if you are persistent enough. After successfully stowing away our belongings, we make our way to Zurich Airport - of course not without the uneasy feeling of having forgotten something.

But what is luggage stress compared to the "flight nightmare" in Frankfurt? Boarding three times, disembarking twice, an uncomfortable night at the airport - and finally, 24 hours late, Mexico City. The vacation had begun, but not without a little frustration.

Mexico City – A gigantic metropolis

After arriving in this overwhelming city with its 20 million inhabitants, we first had to digest a culture shock. Who would have thought that you could stroll through the streets of this urban behemoth at 3 a.m. without feeling unsafe? The traffic here is chaotic, but - surprise! - relaxed. Mexicans master the art of driving without stress: no honking, no pushing, just a collective, “We’ll manage somehow.”

Our motorcycles, 22 proud GSs, often became a traffic hazard. Luckily, the police were always there to kindly clear the way for us. We almost felt like VIPs.

From Pacific to Caribbean – The great journey begins

The real adventure began in the following days: We drove along dusty roads, through cactus forests and past impressive volcanoes from the Pacific coast to the Caribbean. Mexico showed itself in all its facets:

  • temperature records: 42 degrees in the desert, 6 degrees in the mountains.
  • Road conditions: Thousands of potholes, even more “topes” (Mexican speed bumps that turned out to be real braking obstacles), and a never-ending orgy of curves in the Sierra Madre.
  • Flora and fauna: There was everything from cacti to tropical flowers. A real paradise – as long as you didn't get stuck in the ankle-deep sand.

Adventure and supporting program – More than just motorcycling

In addition to driving, variety was also guaranteed. Mexico offers an incredible supporting program:

  • Balloon ride at sunrise: A magical view over the temple complex of Teotihuacán.
  • Cooking class: We learned the art of tacos and enchiladas directly from the masters.
  • Markets and Mines: From vibrant markets full of colors and smells to descending into a gemstone mine, there was something for everyone.
  • Relaxation and nature: Bathing in hot springs, wading through waterfalls, and of course a mojito (or two) was a must.

Safety – Many thoughts, little danger

Before the trip we had heard a few horror stories about Mexico. But in reality we encountered mostly open arms and helpful peopleEven in Taxco, where vigilantism reigns supreme, we felt safe.

Even at night in Mexico City or in the narrow streets of smaller towns, we never felt like we had to look after our belongings. This positive experience surprised many of us.

The review – 3 weeks we will never forget

In 21 days we experienced more than many people do in a whole year. heat of the desert to the cold of the mountains, from intensive teamwork to personal experiences that push your limits: this trip was anything but boring.

It was almost a miracle that 22 individuals managed to survive in such a small space for three weeks without any major conflicts. But when you sweat, laugh and suffer together, you quickly become a family.

And finally ...

Mexico is a country of Extremes and Contradictions – a Paradise for adventure seekers and explorers. Those who travel by motorbike experience the diversity of this country first hand. It was exhausting, overwhelming, but above all unforgettable.
