A very personal Iceland travel report by Uwe Wienecke

Pooh, it was hot. Very hot. We were sweating together in Italy. In France and Spain, too, the juice ran into motorcycle boots. Some of us were still hanging around - who knows why. At least not to endure.
For the summer, a destination with refreshment was needed. Crystal clear and pure and as cold as possible. Wait a minute, there was a visitor from Munich a year ago. Yes of course! The idea! The BMW-GS Club International eV from Munich. The members were planning a trip to Iceland and were still looking for colleagues. For some of us, saving ourselves from the heat collapse.

It started in Munich for planning and organization. In the course of several meetings and through a lot of commitment from the Munich, especially Haukur, as far as transport and route were concerned, the tour came to an end. For all of us from the Allgäu, who have been friends with Munich from the start, everything was quickly paletti. And then another Icelander, who could bring personal things into the trip with his home relationships. Great.

In mid-August we went to Reykjavik by plane. The motorbikes of us 25 GS students and seven guests had already arrived at the airport by truck.

We just had to get out of the plane and up on the moped. Everything was booked. Half hotel, half campsite, for 15 days. Non-stop driving. For those who wanted to spare their mopeds, there was a complete asphalt tour. But who wanted that? The Allgäu itself prefers to hang around on alternative routes. At first I couldn't believe it, but it should be more than 1000 km of gravel.

In the first two days, the sights around Reykjavik "Golden Circle" were covered.

There are a lot of tourists on the road, Iceland is currently the hit. But also big enough for us furrows. It got better and better the further we got from the main routes.

The sun was shining, the sky was blue, refreshing the first bath when crossing the river.

Okay, some practice was still missing.
For some people it was flat in the stomach area. But the landscape ... It made up for everything. There was no hassle, there was only infinite joy in driving. This varied landscape, the changing colors of the stones and mountains. We lost ourselves in amazement every day.

The will to conquer the water grew slowly. And if something went wrong, everyone helped everyone. We usually drove in small groups and never encountered insurmountable obstacles. On the contrary. Wolfgang managed to find a detour of the worst kind almost every day. We then followed, just to raise our banner somewhere in a hot spring.

During our time there we also met the GS Club Island. Around 25 men on mopeds; the newspapers reported on the largest BMW-GS meeting Iceland had ever seen.

Even so, we had a great and fun time with the men with the unspeakable names. A few beers and some fish is always possible.
Scal!

In the meantime by boat out to sea, watch whales. But unlike on TV, or our trip with the glacier mobile followed by a tour of the glacier caves.

Or the boat trip up north through the offshore islands with their diverse bird life.
The cliffs in northwest Iceland.

The remote waterfalls. Insane, this island. Not to forget this absolutely pure air. We were amazed.

Or our longest off-road route, around 250 km in one go. 10 hours. Standing, falling or sometimes an involuntary bath in the rivers.

Yes, and to top it all off, a tent overnight stay in the middle of nowhere when nothing worked and it got dark. Experiences that none of us ever wanted to miss.
15 unforgettable days that unfortunately came to an end. Thanks to the Munich people for this experience.

We Allgäuer came back from the island with increased beard growth and with many overwhelming impressions.
